The initial phase of the intake process is quick and simple. Once the O.T.C. receives a referral from any of the agencies, a letter is sent confirming the referral and a meeting is scheduled. The necessary paperwork is completed, and the interviewer presents an overview of the organization and answers any questions that may arise. Program options are discussed and work begins toward helping the individual plan their vocational goals.
The individual is then assigned to a work program and once there a vocational evaluation begins. This is used to assess an individual’s work habits, job skills and abilities. If after five weeks, the individual does not meet the criteria for a particular work site they enter the work adjustment training (WAT) phase in which a counselor and trainee develop a habilitative plan to reach an employment goal.
At the end of work adjustment training, if an individual cannot meet the demands of competitive employment they enter the extended employment program. While in extended employment an individual continues to work with a counselor to their vocational goals.
If an individual can meet the demands of competitive employment, they may enter the supported employment program. In this program, with the assistance of a counselor, an individual locates, secures and maintains employment with a private, for profit employer.
