The Occupational Training Center of Burlington County (OTC) is a private non-profit corporation that offers diversified vocational rehabilitation and job placement programs for individuals with disabilities. The mission of the Occupational Training Center (OTC) is to assist individuals with disabilities in reaching their highest potential. In particular, we assist disabled adults in preparing for the workplace and for success in the work environment vocationally, socially and personally.
Discovery
The OTC was founded in 1964 when a group of parents and volunteers organized in an effort to provide vocational opportunities for people with disabilities. The OTC was established in 1964 and prior to that time, people with disabilities had very few opportunities to be productive working members of their communities.
Innovation
Initially, eight individuals worked at the OTC, performing bench assembly operations.
As the client base expanded, the Board of Trustees was forced to find a more reliable and ongoing source of work. It was then that the OTC began developing long term, community based service contracts which allowed for the expansion and diversification of OTC programming.
Over time, interest in the center continued to grow and currently, the OTC offers the following programs:
- Bench Assembly Operations
- Adult Training Centers
- Crew Labor
- Food Services
- Custodial Maintenance
- Clerical Support Services
- Supported Employment
- Recycling operations
- Residential Services
Opportunity
The mission, conceived some years ago, continues to be realized. Each year, more than 700 individuals with disabilities seek to reach their maximum potential through vocational evaluations, job training and gainful employment. With OTC, the sky is the limit!
