Adult Training Services

The O.T.C. operates four Adult Training Centers (ATC's) and a Crew Labor Program. ATC's provide day programs for individuals with severe and profound disabilities who are unable to meet the demands of the O.T.C.'s community based job training programs.

Program focus at the ATC's is on teaching daily living skills along with social and community integration. Individuals in the ATC's participate in staff supervised activities throughout the day. Community based programming includes mobile work crews, meals on wheels, and a grocery shopping program for people who are unable to shop for themselves. Facility based training focuses on teaching appropriate health and hygiene, arts and crafts, meal preparation and socialization training.

A therapeutic swing is one of many devices which are used in the Special Needs Program to enhance muscle stimulation and gross motor skills for individuals with severe physical disabilities.

In 1995, the Cherry Hill ATC incorporated a Special Needs Program in order to address the mounting needs of individuals who have severe and profound physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy and spina bifida.

A team comprised of a nurse, a part-time occupational therapist and an aide, implement habilitative programs designed to increase range of motion and reduce muscle atrophy. In order for the Special Needs Program to provide appropriate services, therapeutic devices, such as a supine stander and therapy swing, are utilized in the day to day activities. Additional devices are used to increase cognitive awareness and provide muscular stimulation.

The O.T.C.'s Crew Labor Program is comprised of mobile work crews, usually 4 or 5 trainees to one supervisor, who travel to work sites to perform janitorial work, lawn care maintenance and/or litter abatement.
