NDEAM Food Services Employee Spotlight

Spotlighting four outstanding food services employees

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). To celebrate, we want to spotlight some of the hardest-working employees from the OTC working in food services. The goal of NDEAM is to spotlight the importance of employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Often paid under the minimum wage, employees with disabilities do not get the credit they deserve considering the amount of help they provide.

For over 20 years, the OTC has been providing work in food services. Services offered include dishwashing, bussing tables, and custodial maintenance. Food service training takes place at the Halvorsen Dining Hall at McGuire AFB, serving around 1500 meals daily. Over 30 individuals with disabilities from the OTC work in food service at the Halvorsen Dining Hall, which is open 24/7.

Lauren M

Lauren is a highly motivated team player who is determined to assist those she works with. She shows initiative in her work by assisting her coworkers even if they do not ask for it. She enjoys lending a helping hand to those who need it as much as she enjoys working on her tasks. Showing her dedication to work, Lauren seeks supervisor direction when completing tasks to ensure that everything is up to standard. Lauren also possesses a sharp mind that allows her to remember her tasks which helps her do a great job at everything she does.

When Bernard runs into obstacles that get in the way of his work, he is sure to find a way to overcome them, no matter how difficult it may be. He strives to go above and beyond the call of duty, motivating others with his positive energy and helping others out whenever possible.

Warren N

For the past four years, Warren has been dedicated to doing the best job possible. One of the traits that help him do so is his ability to pick up on new skills quickly. After watching others, he is excellent at understanding how new machines work, which makes him a great asset. He is multi-faceted and can complete a variety of different jobs upon request. One aspect of the OTC that stands out to him are hands-on experiences and the ability to do different things each day. Outside of work, Warren enjoys being active and playing poker and cards with his friends.

Tayleka

Tayleka greatly enjoys working in food service with the OTC. For the past fifteen years, Tayleka has become a valuable asset as she can clean various locations and complete tasks . She specifically enjoys working in the courtyard and kitchen and taking out the trash. For Tayleka, work with the OTC is enjoyable because it allows her to help others out whenever it is possible. In her free time, you can find Tayleka listening to music from J. Cole and other hip hop artists.
