After working at the OTC for over 25 years, Mark was ready to try something new. Rose, an employment specialist at the OTC, helped Mark find a job he loves! Mark remarks, “She saw something in me, saw so much potential.”
The Supported Employment program at the OTC helped him get started. Counselors are available to assist with finding open positions, filling out applications, interview prep, and even attending interviews with you.
Mark remembers, “It helped me get my foot in the door. My job means so much to me. It’s not just a job; I’ve found a community.”
Mark took the skills he learned in OTC’s janitorial program and is now a Service Attendant at Deborah Heart and Lung Center. Mark feels “respected and appreciated for everything he does.” Mark is thriving in his job; he even received the Hospital’s Star of the Month this past January. The nomination explains, “Mark is an integral member of the team. His dedication and enthusiasm for his job are very much appreciated and recognized.”
This opportunity is much more than a job to Mark; he has gained more than a paycheck but empathy, compassion, and patience. Mark humbly remarked, “I see myself in the patients, which has calmed me down a lot at work. Whatever they – or the nurses – need, I do it.”
The OTC is incredibly proud of Mark’s dedication and commitment to his work and personal growth.
