Residential Services Overview

Goals

Residential Services GoalsOur aim is to empower each resident with more opportunities and skills, fostering self-sufficiency in a supportive atmosphere guided by trained staff. Our residential homes are staffed around the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure a safe and enriching environment. At the OTC, we are dedicated to going beyond the basics, striving to create homes that truly cater to the needs and well-being of our residents.

Community-Based Activities

Our aim is to help individuals actively engage in their community. We’ve built strong connections with local organizations, providing residents with opportunities to volunteer and take part in recreational and social activities.

Residents join in a variety of community-based activities, including visits to sculpture gardens, movies, local parks, shopping spots, restaurants, aquariums and sporting events like MLB games. They also attend indoor and outdoor concerts and various event venues. Additionally, residents have the chance to participate in weekly private music or other types of lessons.

Home-Based Activities

Residential Services Home-Based Activities

In our group homes, residents work on life-skill goals every day, finding satisfaction in the tasks they accomplish around the house. Our staff collaborates with residents to foster healthy diets and establish personal goals that contribute to building self-esteem.

Every individual concentrates on enhancing practical living skills while strengthening their ties to the community with support from staff who promote independence in areas such as personal hygiene, household cleaning tasks and meal preparation.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How many people live in each home? Are they Coed?

Each of our group homes is licensed to accommodate four residents. At OTC Services, none of our group homes are coed facilities.

2. What are the staffing ratios?

The group home ensures that two staff members are scheduled for each shift to offer direct care support to the four residents living in the home. This ratio may be adjusted based on the specific needs and circumstances of the services.

3. Will I get my own room?

Each resident leases their own bedroom and will not be required to share a room with a housemate.

4. Am I allowed to decorate my own room?

Residents can personalize and decorate their bedrooms as they wish, but each room must have a bed, dresser and mirror. These essentials will be provided by the OTC unless the resident prefers to use their own. Residents also have the option to choose the paint color for their bedroom. Additionally, they can share input on the décor in the common areas.

5. Will I be allowed to go out into the community for activities? Do I get to choose the activities?

Every month, the group homes host house meetings where residents are encouraged to share their input on scheduling upcoming activities and outings. The aim in each home is to organize community outings three to five times per week.

6. Will I attend other OTC services during the day?

Residents take part in services outside the home during the day, which may include OTC-provided services but aren’t limited to them. Individuals are encouraged to attend day programs, vocational training programs or pursue competitive employment.

7. Can my family visit, or can I go home to see them?

Residents are welcome to have visitors at any time of their choosing. We encourage day outings with family and friends to foster a strong sense of connection to their loved ones. Home visits are also encouraged, with the understanding that the length of stays and the number of days spent outside of the service should adhere to the set limitations.
